Visual identity for an accounting service inspired by structure, reliability, and a subtle reference to Scandinavian rune aesthetics.
Services: brand identity / logo design / business cards / stationery / wall decal
Ragmar is a visual identity project, designed for an accounting firm seeking a more refined, distinctive, and recognisable presence.
The goal of the project was to create a brand system that communicates professionalism, structure, and dependability, while moving away from the generic visual language often associated with the accounting sector. Rather than relying solely on standard corporate signals, the identity was developed to give the brand a more confident and memorable character — one that feels established, clear, and visually considered across both print and spatial applications.
The challenge was to design an identity for an accounting service that feels credible, precise, and trustworthy, without becoming visually anonymous.
In a category where many brands tend to look interchangeable, the objective was to create something more distinctive while still respecting the expectations of the industry. The identity needed to maintain a professional tone and a sense of reliability, but also introduce enough personality to set Ragmar apart. Finding that balance between seriousness and individuality was central to the project.
The concept is centred around a custom monogram inspired by the visual character of Scandinavian and Viking rune forms.
The client wanted the identity to carry a subtle reference to that aesthetic, not in a decorative or literal way, but through form, rhythm, and construction. In response, the logomark was built from the initials R and M, reduced into a compact symbol with a geometric, almost carved quality. The result is a mark that feels stable and distinctive at the same time — simple in structure, but rich enough in character to give the brand its own recognisable voice.
The visual identity system is built on a balance of structure, restraint, and refinement.
At its core is the custom monogram, which functions as the key recognisable element of the brand and gives the system a strong visual anchor. This is paired with a clean wordmark and understated typography, allowing the identity to remain professional and accessible without losing its distinctive edge.
The colour palette plays an important role in shaping the tone of the brand. A deep blue base introduces stability, seriousness, and trust, while the warm copper-gold accent adds contrast, depth, and a more premium feel. Together, these elements create a visual language that feels polished and confident, while still remaining appropriate for the accounting sector. Supporting graphic elements derived from the monogram help extend the system across different formats, keeping the overall identity cohesive and controlled.
The identity was applied across a focused set of brand touchpoints, including business cards, stationery, and a wall decal.
Each application was developed to demonstrate how the system performs in practical use while preserving a consistent visual tone. The printed materials emphasise clarity and professionalism, while the larger-scale wall application helps translate the identity into physical space, giving the brand a stronger presence beyond paper-based communication.
Together, these applications show the flexibility of the system and its ability to remain recognisable across different contexts. Whether used in small-format brand materials or within an interior environment, the identity retains the same sense of order, confidence, and visual coherence.
The final identity gives Ragmar a more distinctive and self-assured position within a traditionally conservative category.
By combining professional clarity with a symbolic visual language, the brand moves beyond generic accounting aesthetics and presents itself in a way that feels more memorable, considered, and refined. The custom monogram, restrained typography, and balanced colour palette work together to create a brand presence that is reliable and contemporary, but also visually elevated.
The result is a system that not only supports the practical needs of the business, but also gives Ragmar a stronger sense of identity — one that feels clear, confident, and built to last.
